Untitled, Hand-embellished, Limited Edition of 10
I started this piece in 2023 and finished it in 2024. This piece was inspired by the beginning lyrics of the « Would that I » song by Hozier as well as the Yin and Yang symbol. I mention only the beginning as it speaks of newfound love.
STORY
I wanted to show a relationship that is complimentary and filled with love and support. The position they are in is to symbolize the circle that makes the yin and yang symbol.
VARIATIONS
Originally I had the woman’s hair long and covering the man’s back, but I changed it to an Afro instead, to symbolize a tree covering them both in a way. Originally they were laying down, but I found that having them stand up and having their heads being intertwined in a way represented the yin and yang symbol better.
DETAILS
If you pay attention, she is almost blending with the background nature scene to signify that she is part of nature. It is also to represent that she is a vital part of his life and vice versa. Meanwhile, she is peacefully resting her head on his back while he listens to her heart.
They are wearing matching outfits to bring back the complimentary theme of the yin and yang symbol.
COLORS
I chose the colors blue, teal and green to symbolize elements of nature namely air, water, and plants. The pink hibiscus are to symbolize softness, love, and romance. It’s also the national flower of my home country. Her brown skin is to symbolize a tree trunk and his dark skin is to symbolize earth.
